Reproduction German WWII Fallschirmjäger (Paratrooper) Gravity Knife (Flieger-Kappmesser)- This is the desirable "take-down model" which was issued to Luftwaffe Flight crews & Fallschirmjäger members. This was used by German Paratroopers during WWII to free themselves from tangled parachute cords, they were made in two versions. This "take-down model" of the knife can be disassembled. The blade is released by the lever on the side of the handle and slides in and out using gravity, as they are not spring loaded. There is also a spike on the one side, which was used for untangling knots or puncture the enemy’s vehicle tires. There is a swiveling loop on the butt end for attaching a lanyard. The wooden handles are nicely finished walnut, making them the finest reproductions on the market. Nicely marked with RB Number & waffenampt!
Operation of the Knife: To release the blade, hold the knife in a downward position and push the lever forward. When the blade is completely extended, release the lever and the blade will be locked in place. To retract the blade, follow the same steps holding the knife upright.Warning! The blades are sharpened. Most of these are not perfect and can have a nick or dent in the handle.
NOTE: These parts are not interchangeable with originals and cannot be used for repairing period models.
