Original US WWII Navy M1 Helmet Fixed Bale With Hawley Liner- MT- 43 indicates "Mount 43". A battleship would have numerous AAA mounts. On an Iowa class battleship for example, 20 quad-40mm mounts and 49 20 mm mounts on average. Helmets for the gun crew would be stored at the mount and marked accordingly.

Original OD Green paint is nicely painted over with Navy Battleship Gray, which was applied with a paint gun and the helmet shell retains a good amount of textured finish. Stenciled on the front of the helmet is MT- 43 in white paint
