Description

Original Third Reich Municipal Police Dress Bayonet By Carl Eickhorn- This Municipal Police Bayonet features a large hilt, equipped with a mortise and rifle slot at the pommel. The mortise button functions well. The pommel is adorned with engraved feathering, showcasing fine detail, while the crossguard/quillon displays raised, overlapping oak leaves on the obverse. The reverse of the crossguard is plain, with visible grinding marks, and oak leaves appear at the quillon.

The grip plates are made of genuine stag, with attractive tan and brown surfaces, featuring well-defined grains. The edges have taken on a golden hue. These plates are secured by aluminum rivets with dressed heads on both sides. The obverse grip displays a pierced police insignia, consisting of an open-winged police eagle over an oval wreath of oak leaves. While the eagle shows some wear on the breast, wings, and wreath, much of the detail remains visible, with some dirt in the crevices that could be cleaned out. The eagle clasps a wreathed swastika in its talons.

The scabbard is made of leather, showing signs of age but remaining in good, collectible condition. It is decorated with twin lines along both edges. The scabbard mounts are made of solid aluminum, featuring scalloped edges where they meet the leather. These mounts display moderate wear from carrying, with minor dings present. They are attached with staples on the reverse in the typical fashion.

The frog, crafted from black parade leather, shows its age. It is broken at the hole, and the side of the frog is beginning to separate.

The blade has been cut down to 13 inches, and the modification was skillfully executed, leaving a sharp tip, though it is slightly bent at the very end. The blade's nickel plating remains bright and in excellent condition. The reverse is marked with the early Eickhorn logo, featuring large double ovals containing the firm's name and location, with a seated squirrel and the initials "C. E." beneath.

This is a solid example of a basic, slotted Municipal Police Bayonet, which is more difficult to find than the plain types.
