Original German WWII “Panzergrenadiere” Lithographs By Walter Gotschke (Set of 11)

A grenadier was historically an elite assault soldier, originally specialized in throwing hand grenades during siege battles. By the 18th century, the role evolved, with grenadiers becoming physically robust frontline troops leading vanguard assaults.

In 1942, renowned military artist Walter Gotschke was commissioned to create a series of lithographs depicting Panzergrenadiers in action. These prints were originally sold in a folder, featuring a cover illustration of both historical German grenadiers and modern Panzergrenadiers, with the title Panzergrenadiere. The full set contained 15 prints, each signed GOTSCHKE 42 and measuring approximately 8" to 8.5" wide by 6" tall.

This offering includes 11 of the original 15 prints (the folder is missing). Each lithograph is mounted on 12 3/4" x 10 1/4" backing and features a caption in the lower right corner. The prints appear to be executed in a mix of charcoal, watercolor, and other artistic techniques.
