Description

Original German WWII Heer Lion's Head Officer’s Sword By Peter Daniel Krebs-

This German Army Lion's Head Sword is a well-preserved example produced by Peter Daniel Krebs of Solingen. It features a finely crafted nickel-plated blade and comes with its original black-painted steel scabbard.

Hilt & Grip:
The hilt of this sword is a later-war gold-gilt and plated aluminum or zinc variant. Over time, the gilding has aged to a bronze hue. Wear is present, primarily on raised areas and the lion’s mane. The lion's head features red jewel eyes, while the backstrap is adorned with an embossed German oak leaf and acorn motif, extending onto the side tabs. The flat "P" guard carries the same motif, as does the brass ferrule. Hand-enhanced details are evident, particularly in the crossguard area.

Langet & Guard:
The langet displays a raised-out "spread wing" national eagle with exquisite detailing in the beak, eyes, breast and wing feathering, talons, and mobile swastika within a clutched wreath. The reverse langet features a blank shield, traditionally left unmarked for an officer to add a monogram, though this example remains unengraved.

Blade:
The blade measures 29 3/4 inches and is crafted from high-quality spring steel with a well-preserved nickel-plated finish, showing only minor wear and aging. The original leather blade buffer is present and aged. The reverse ricasso bears the maker’s mark: a crayfish or freshwater lobster inside a shield, encircled by "PET. DAN. KREBS SOLINGEN". Peter Daniel Krebs was a well-known Solingen-based arms manufacturer, part of the famed "City of Blades" in Western Germany.

Grip:
The grip is constructed from black celluloid over a carved wooden base, remaining in excellent condition with only minor wear and no cracks or missing sections. It is wrapped with three pairs of gold-coated twisted wire, with the central pair being thicker. Some gold has worn off the twisted wire, revealing the bare metal. The grip remains tightly secured to the tang.

Scabbard:
The scabbard is in excellent condition, free from major dents or bends. Its original black factory-applied paint remains well-preserved, showing minor scratches. The scabbard retains its original hanger ring and flat loop for belt attachment.

Specifications:

Blade Style: Single Edge with Fuller

Overall Length: 34 1/2 inches

Conclusion
