This is an original 2nd Model Luftwaffe dagger, produced by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen, one of the most prestigious manufacturers of Luftwaffe daggers during WWII. This 1937 model remains a highly desirable piece, featuring a plated blade in excellent condition with only minor gray veining. The blade displays the iconic “Carl Eickhorn” maker mark with the squirrel holding the sword, beautifully executed and crisp. The tip is intact, and the original black pebbled buffer pad is still present.
The hilt is composed of high-quality aluminum. The pommel features the heart-shaped design encircling two swastikas and is well-preserved with some wear and not gold on them. The matching crossguard is adorned with an eagle clutching a swastika, showcasing some mild wear on the head, legs & claws. The reverse crossguard retains its pebbled panel with darkened background highlights, adding character to the piece.
The grip is a stunning light orange "egg yolk" color, in perfect condition. It is nicely wrapped with springy aluminum wire, further enhancing its visual appeal.
The scabbard is a classic Eickhorn design, featuring a very good airplane gray finish with some areas of discoloration due to age. It is equipped with convex carrying bands and a thicker-style throat, secured by two headless side screws.
Overall, this 2nd Model Luftwaffe dagger by Carl Eickhorn is in very good to excellent condition, making it a superb addition to any WWII militaria collection.
