Description

Original German WWII 1936 Berlin Olympics Collector Cards Scrapbook- The main focus of this paperback was so that Olympic athlete collector cards published by the German coffee company, Heinrich Franck Sohne, could be stored and organized. There are *115* Olympic souvenir cards portraying some of the most famous German and international athletes of the period. There are only 5 missing Olympic cards. These cards are not glued down and can be easily removed to read the information printed on the back.

The 30 or so pages in the beginning of this scrapbook that were added and are not related to the 1936 Berlin Olympics. There are a wide array of German cigarette cards, also known as Sammelwerk cards. There are also quite a few backsides of the Olympic pages that were used to collect these small cigarette cards. They were collectible cards that were inside cigarette packs during the 1920s and 1930s. They were issued in thematic groups and each image was numbered so that collectors could arrange and store them in special albums made for the cards. They were originally used as a marketing tool to encourage people to buy more cigarettes, but they eventually became a popular form of media and a way to promote political ideas. There are *344* (give or take a few) thematic cigarette cards and some measure approximately 1.5" x 2.25" and 2" x 2.5". Of the 344 or so there are 35 loose cards that appear to have slipped out from their proper spot.

The soft paperback cover is damaged due to poor storage and age. There are quite a few pages that have damaged and/or ripped corners and edges. The album measures approximately 11" x 13". Although the keepsake book is damaged, the cards inside are in excellent condition.
