Original German WWII 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger By SMF With Hanger & Portepee- This is an original 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger by SMF of Solingen, complete with hanger and portepee. This 1937 model, produced by one of the top manufacturers of Luftwaffe daggers, features a desirable plated blade with minor gray veining and a few very small nicks along the edge. The blade remains in very good condition, showcasing a beautifully executed “SMF Solingen” maker mark and a waffenampt number 5 stamped above the king with crown and sword logo. The blade tip is slightly rounded but fits solidly, and the original blue pebbled buffer pad is intact.

The steel-based plated scabbard, while showing some corrosion and rust on one side, is free of dents and richly detailed with random pebbling, oak leaves, and acorns. The two headless retaining screws are intact. The aluminum bands match the cross guard and pommel perfectly. The burnished aluminum SMF Luftwaffe eagle cross guard retains good detail in the head, feathers, wings, and top side oak leaves and acorns, despite slight corrosion on one side. The aluminum pommel also has good detailing.

The orange grip, though displaying some scrape marks on the back and slightly damaged wire, is not cracked. The aluminum springy wire wrap remains tightly intact despite minor damage. The dagger comes with a silver portepee in excellent condition and a Luftwaffe dagger hanger, which shows some aging on the metal hardware, which has a good amount of detailing and is still in very good to excellent condition. Overall a nice matching SMF dagger in very good condition.
