The Tank Destruction Badge was introduced on March 9, 1942 for the single handed destruction of a tank. It was awarded to soldiers who as a single combatant destroyed an enemy tank or armored vehicle using only close combat weapons. For every tank they destroyed soldiers would receive one of these special badges. On the fifth award the five badges were exchanged for one Gold badge.
