Original Third Reich Early NSKK Dagger By Gebruder Heller With Hanger-
This early NSKK dagger, manufactured by Gebrüder Heller, is a rare and desirable piece for collectors. The wooden grip is in excellent condition, showcasing rich brown tones and a smooth, well-preserved finish, but does have some slight scratches on the back. It features the iconic grip eagle and SA roundel, both of which remain highly detailed. The eagle displays intricate feathering, a wreath, and a swastika, with slight wear that reflects its age. The grip transitions seamlessly into solid nickel crossguards, which exhibit a gentle, natural patina. The lower reverse crossguard is marked "Mi," indicating its origin in the Mitte Gau district.
The blade is etched with the SA motto "Alles für Deutschland" (All for Germany) and retains 100% of the dark etching. The reverse side proudly displays the maker's mark "Gebrüder Heller Schmalkalden," also fully intact with dark etching. The blade retains a substantial amount of its original cross-graining, with only minor surface scratches and runner marks typical of age and handling. The blade shoulders align perfectly with the contours of the crossguard, a testament to the craftsmanship.
The scabbard is straight and well-preserved but has lost approximately 50% of its black painted finish due to poor storage over the years. It is free of significant dings or dents, though slight surface rust is present. The nickel silver fittings complement the crossguards with a matching patina, although the ball at the lower drag shows a very minor dent. All original screws are present and secure, though some appear to have been tampered with.
Included with the dagger is an early black leather hanger and handle strap, both of which remain supple, in very good condition and are valued at over $175 collectively.
Overall, this Early NSKK dagger is in very good to excellent condition, offering both historical significance and strong aesthetic appeal.
