This is an excellent example of a combat-used Normandy camouflage helmet, manufactured by hkp (Sächsische Emaillier- und Stanzwerke) and sized at 64. The helmet features a two-tone camouflage pattern, with a base layer of ordnance tan and patches of green paint applied over it. The camouflage appears hastily or crudely applied, possibly as part of a rushed reissue process to equip a German soldier. The exterior displays various rust spots, indicative of both combat use and long-term storage.
The interior retains approximately 85% of its original dark field-gray factory paint, with some minor rust spots showcasing its authentic wartime condition.
The helmet's original leather liner remains intact and supple but exhibits some damage, potentially from poor storage conditions or battle-related wear. The original drawstring is still present. The chinstrap, while also original, may not be factory-issued with this helmet, as it is a pre/early-war type. It has sustained damage, with the long section shortened/broken off, though the short portion is still complete with aluminum buckle.
This helmet can either be restored with a good used original liner and chinstrap or preserved in its current condition to highlight its historical authenticity. A fantastic M42 camouflage helmet that would make an impressive addition to any WWII collection.
